DONAHUE ACADEMY STUDENTS TAKE PART IN THE MARCH AND RELATED EVENTS
For the 2025 March for Life, Donahue brought 38 juniors and seniors to Washington, D.C., along with Deacon Kinnick, Mr. and Mrs. Velasco, Mr. Mariano, and Ms. Beckerman as chaperones. On Thursday, January 23, the students and chaperones flew to D.C., went to their hotel, and then took a bus to the Sisters of Life Youth Rally in Virginia. The youth rally was a night of worship, featuring a performance by the Christian band We Are Messengers. The Sisters, along with a woman they had helped through their ministry, gave a talk following the rally. The night ended with praise and worship led by Matt Maher and included Eucharistic Adoration.
On Saturday, January 25, the students and chaperones attended Mass at Saint Mary, Mother of God Church, across from their hotel. At Mass, they met other people attending the March for Life, including some from the Archdiocese of Miami! Groups of students then visited museums, such as the National Museum of Natural History, the Air & Space Museum, and the National Art Gallery, before attending the March. The pre-March ceremonial speakers included Governor Ron DeSantis, Lila Rose from Live Action, and Vice President J.D. Vance. The talks encouraged the students to continue to fight for the unborn and stand strong in their beliefs in protecting life.
The group marched downtown with tens of thousands of participants, all advocating for the right to life from conception to natural death. Mikayla Allan, one of the students who attended the march, said, “The march was an eye-opening experience, as I got to participate in and witness the rest of my generation supporting the beautiful and powerful movement for the unborn.” Another, Leo Cantwell, said, “For me, the March for Life in D.C. was a great experience. I have never seen so many young people protesting for life. I met many people my age who were strong in their faith, and seeing that helped me grow in my faith even more.”
The trip culminated with students visiting monuments and memorials, including the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and WWII Memorial. At Donahue, we place importance on equipping students with experiences that allow them to stand up for what they believe in. “This was an experience I am certain nobody will soon forget,” said Ms. Brady Beckerman who teaches at Donahue and traveled with the group.
