Donahue Academy recognizes that raising saints requires a partnership with the family. And whereas the school partners directly with parents, it recognizes that this task is an intergenerational one and so, in a special way, it aims to welcome and celebrate grandparentsā involvement in their grandchildrenās formation. This year, Grandparents Day was made even more special by featuring not only lunch, but also the Ignatius Book Fair. The day began with Mass at Church and addresses from Dr. Marc Snyder, Principal, and Mr. Wil Hampton, Director of Advancement. Then, grandparents and their grandchildren walked to Donahue, where they enjoyed lunch and the book fair.
āItās nice to be able to spend time with my Grandma,ā said Veyda Mickelson, Grade 7. Her grandmother, Peggy, added: āItās my first time at Grandparents Day. It was nice going to Mass and then getting to spend time with my [four] grandkids.ā Anna Bragdon, who has a son in Grade 10 and in charge of setting up the book fair said with a smile: āThis is my tenth year doing the book fair. This year is a banner year because we paired it with Grandparents Day… As you can see from the line, this was a really smart decision!ā Mr. Hampton summed it up best: āIf Catholic education is encouraged and promoted by the grandparents , it will thrive.ā Thank you, grandparents, for all you do!
