Why Donahue Academy chose Institute for Excellence in writing.
The Institute for Excellence in Writing provides resources in order to help students become better writers. Edward Watson the Assistant Principal at Donahue Academy said, “The Mission at Donahue Academy is to pursue excellence in all things.” Through the implementation of his new writing program students at Donahue Academy are equipped to achieve excellence in writing. This is a tool that they will be able to carry with them throughout there life.
Donahue Academy has already seen vast improvement to students writing skills. Dr. Marc Snyder, Donahue’s Principle said, “From the very beginning of it’s use at our school it really worked well with the way I think in general students learn especially learn how to write and how to write well.” The students have been very open to learning how to write with excellence. This shows there determination to excel in everything that they do.
The staff at Donahue wanted to ensure that this transition was smooth for everyone. Dr. Synder said, “It was a natural decision to bring IEW to the school. It was met with an embrace from the teachers and the students.”
IEW has been very helpful throughout this process and wanted to help our students thrive. The goal here at Donahue Academy is to form students in every aspect Edward Watson said, “The nice part about the framework that is presented in IEW is that although it’s introduced in our literature and and writing class, it’s applied across the curriculum.” These tools can be applied in all of there classes as well as outside of the classroom.
When doing presentations the students have keynotes that they use. Through this writing program we have seen a drastic change in there presentation skills. Dr. Synder said, “It requires you when you’re standing up in front your peers, it requires you to really be able to think through what you’re saying.”
The staff is dedicated to forming the whole human person and helping students excel in all that they do. Dr. Synder said, “We want to produce excellent humans.” By working with IEW Donahue is able to equip students with this opportunity to grow in virtue in and out of the classroom.
